Modular Clockwork

A clock composed of different independent modules
(the music sounds like the ticking of very complex clockwork)

Date of inception: No fixed date, the only two songs have been recorded in April 1997. Solo project from Alex.

Style: Very complex rhythmic Ambient (like Aphex Twin)

Band members: Zeimet Alex alias Lzeimet – Modular Synthesizer and Recordings

Biography:

In the summer of 1996 Alex planned the purchase of a genuine "Modular Synthesizer System". In early July he ordered the construction of a Modular System in Germany. That is a very special instrument inasmuch as that you decide exactly what kind, and how many modules you want incorporated in your synthesizer, yourself. The composition of such a system is that of a building kit and you can add as many modules to your system as you can afford. What's more is that these devices aren't manufactured in a factory, but hand crafted by an electronics engineer. He constructs these systems in the shape of 19" racks,  into which the separate modules are built in. Alex ordered two of those racks, since he chose to accumulate a greater number of these modules: 3 oscillators, 2 LFO 's, 2 separate VCA with mixer and filter ("MOOG"-and "ARP/VCS3"-filter), one double envelope filter, one glide-module as well as one Sample/Hold-module with integrated noise generator.

The following month of 1997 Alex enlarged his modular system with two more racks: 3 analogue sequencers with 16 steps each, one VCA with mixer and Hi/Low-pass Filter, one more double envelope filter, one octave ranger, one ring modulator as well as one digital LFO. Last at least he ordered a gate share module which enables the splitting of sequences in different parts. There is still room for one more module in the modular system and Alex has been waiting quite a while now for a VOCODER module to be developed.

The quality of this system is unbeatable. The tuning of the oscillators remains extremely stable and the filters work effectively. The MOOG filter is even capable of surpassing the voluminous bass sounds of the famous MINIMOOG itself and will, if correctly amplified, almost tear down the walls of your home!
Apart from that, the system offers a very high sound quality. As far as the modulating possibilities are concerned, it is able to reproduce anything from floating string sounds to metallic, more percussive effects and even some really weird and noisy exotic sound compositions. The craftsmanship of the modules is excellent as well. Everything has been hand-made and assembled from high-quality materials.

In the beginning Alex had never planned to release those experiments someday as they were to be but a demonstration of the capabilities of a modular system. But meanwhile many people came to appreciate his sound experiments and so he has decided to record further examples of his work and to release them all on CD.
